What Critics Are Saying

Roger takes me on a journey with his stories and imagery to new insights into my own experiences with congregational life, work, family, and spiritual life.  I follow the thread of his reflections to find an often surprising "ah-ha" when the deeper message is reached where I did not expect it.  Certainly I gain insights into the life and perspective of my clergy friends, but my own as well.

Like everyone around me, I seem to be compelled by some "unknown" to live my life 90mph...relaxing too often, only briefly in the late evening, outside, still breathing deeply from the day's work and events.  Fireflies, the name of the e-newsletter which Roger Kruger writes and from which come many of the reflections contained in In Jars of Clay remind me of the process of winding down in late summer evenings, watching these wonder-filled gift-from-God creatures.  His writings always bring, no matter what the subject, an almost unbelievable soothing time of reflection for me...causing me to think, but the in process, attend to my very being, and God, who has created and loves me.

-- Roger Sasse , Director of Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries

I always look forward to reading Roger's reflections, written from the perspective of a pastor and counselor.  His insight has provided support and nurture both in my personal and corporate life in the church.
